By AccessWDUN Staff

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Lumpkin County is 2-0 for the first time since 2011 after a 28-6 win over Union County Friday night in a rainy Blairsville.

Head coach Heath Webb is the first Lumpkin County coach since Don Thompkins in 1967 to win his first two games at the helm of the Indian program. Friday night, it was the defense that stood up and stole the show.

The Indian defense held Union County to 1-of-6 on fourth down conversions while forcing a pair of Panther turnovers on the night. The only Union County touchdown came with seconds remaining until halftime on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Caiden Tanner to Zach Taylor on 4th and goal.

Lumpkin County jumped out of the gate quickly, scoring on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Scott to Cal Faulkner to take the early lead. On the next drive, Mason Sullens got his only rushing touchdown of the night from five yards out to double the Indian lead.

Scott again found the endzone to open the second period on a 10-yard pitch-and-catch to Harper Davenport, making the score 21-0 before the Panthers scored their lone points right before halftime. Scott finished the night with a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Out of 309 yards of total offense, Scott accounted for 208 of them, throwing for 180 on 11-of-15 passing and rushing for 48. Faulkner had five catches for 111 yards. For the Panthers, Tanner was 19-for-31 through the air for 248 yards and a touchdown and interception.

Lumpkin County will look to continue the unbeaten start next week at home against Franklin County, while Union will travel to Towns County.
