Cleveland man charged with assaulting his mother

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
A Cleveland man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly assaulting his mother.

The White County Sheriff’s Office responded at 6:50 p.m. to a reported domestic incident between the victim and her adult son at 23 Bear Lovers Court.

White County Sheriff’s Capt. Clay Hammond said the victim was visibly injured. Deputies then attempted to contact the suspect, Phillip Gillenwater, 37.

Hammond said Gillenwater could be seen inside the home, but he refused to come out or communicate with officers on the scene.

Deputies obtained the required warrants and entered the home.

Hammond said Gillenwater refused to follow the deputy's orders. He was eventually taken into custody.

Gillenwater was charged with felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, and battery under the Family Violence Act.
