An arrest has been made in a fatal hit-and-run that happened early Sunday morning in Barrow County.
According to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, multiple local agencies assisted in the investigation to identify a suspect in the case where a white male was found laying on the ground in the area of Highway 211 NW and Mayfair Way. Paul Duncan, 52 of Buford, was identified as the victim.
The Sheriff’s Office says that the investigation has led to the arrest of a suspect. “After a great deal of tedious and painstaking work reviewing camera footage from local homes and businesses, law enforcement personnel were able to identify the vehicle involved and pinpoint the time of the accident, as well as obtain the vehicle’s tag number.”
Demetric Monique Jones, 36, of Monroe, was arrested on Wednesday at her home. She has been charged with hit and run. She was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injuries or death.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith acknowledged the assistance provided by the Winder Police Department and deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. “A lot of time and effort went into solving this case and I am thankful to all the officers who worked so tirelessly to bring this suspect to justice,” said Sheriff Smith.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run north of Winder early Sunday morning.
In a social media post, the sheriff's office said the vehicle in question is a silver Nissan Altima with damage on its front passenger side including broken lights and a broken mirror. The model year is estimated between 2013 and 2017.
The accident reportedly happened just after midnight on Ga. 211 at Huntington Trace between the Winder Bypass and Rockwell Church Road. No further details, including information on the victim, have been released.
Anyone with information on the vehicle in question is asked to call 911.
