TOCCOA, Ga. — A stingy Stephens County defense held Habersham Central to just 128 total yards in a 14-3 defensive battle on Friday night at The Reservation.
With the loss, the Raiders (0-1) ran their losing streak to the Indians in Toccoa extended to 11 straight. The last Habersham win at The Reservation came in 1993.
However, the Raiders led most of the game after Michael Hill booted a 37-yard field goal late in the first quarter to cap an 18-play, 65-yard drive. It stayed 3-0 until the waning seconds of the third quarter.
The Indians finally broke through, getting a 45-yard TD pass from Ben Stowe to Cam Lacy for a 7-3 lead with just 27 seconds left in the third. Stephens County put the game away with a 36-yard touchdown run by Javin Gordon with just over three minutes remaining.
The Raiders' defense forced six Stephens County fumbles but could only recover two of them. They also sacked Stowe twice.
The Indians' defense was equally tough, limiting Habersham to just 56 yards rushing on 32 carries for the game.
