Hall County Government confirms positive rabies case in Gainesville

Hall County Government confirmed on Wednesday a positive rabies case in the Gainesville area. 
 
According to a statement from Hall County Government, a raccoon and a cat recently had contact in the 5600 block of Cool Springs Road.
 
The raccoon was captured and taken to the Georgia Public Health Lab - Virology Section in Decatur, where it tested positive for rabies.
 
Hall County Government will post positive alert signs near where the raccoon was found. If you see an animal behaving strangely, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812 during non-working hours.
 
Officials also encourage animal-owning citizens to vaccinate their pets for rabies. The Hall County Animal Shelter offers rabies vaccines for $10 Tuesday through Friday.
 
This is the seventh confirmed rabies case in Hall County in 2022.
