Fly Betty Band to headline First Friday Concert

By Sydney Hencil Anchor/Reporter

Main Street Gainesville’s First Friday Concert continues on Aug. 5 with headliner Fly Betty Band and opener Gary Carter Band performing on the historic square in downtown Gainesville.

Main Street Manager Nicole Parham said in a press release that First Fridays is a time when the whole community comes together.

Gary Carter Band will warm up the crowd from 7-8 p.m.  Based north of Atlanta, Gary Carter is a vocalist and guitarist solo act.

Fly Betty Band will play music for all ages from 8-10 p.m.  They cover all types of dance and party music from the 70s to current radio hits.  The band will be utilizing the latest tour-grade concert-level sound and lighting equipment to put on the best show possible.

The main stage will be located at the corner closest to Roosevelt Square at Bradford and Spring streets. Bradford and Spring streets will close at 2 p.m. to allow crews to set up the stage and other equipment.

"We’ll close parking earlier, but by 5 p.m., Washington and Main streets will be closed to traffic, allowing time for food trucks to get in place," Parham said in a press release from the City of Gainesville.

Chairs and blankets can be set up starting at 6 p.m.  Food and drinks will be available from local vendors and food trucks.

Free parking is available at the Main Street Parking Deck, 301 Main St. SW; and Hall County Parking Facility, 225 Green St. SE – both within walking distance to the square.  Complimentary parking is also available in the recently opened Gainesville North Parking Deck, located at 100 Brenau Ave.

Main Street Gainesville’s First Friday Concert series starts in June and continues monthly through September, featuring a different band on the first Friday of every month. Events are free and open to the public.

“First Friday concerts are held with the goal of bringing our community downtown to support our small businesses,” Parham said. “Our hope is to give our retailers a boosted night of shoppers, our restaurants a full evening of patrons, and to remind the community about all the great services and businesses that make up the fabric of downtown.”.
