City of Gainesville launching trolley tracking app

By Austin Eller News Director

The City of Gainesville plans to launch an app that will allow the public to track its two trolleys as part of their weekend neighborhood routes.

Gainesville and Hall Area Transit hope the free Gainesville, GA Trolley app will be available by the end of July on the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

“Users interested in riding the Downtown-Dixon and/or Downtown-Glenwood trolleys, now available from 6-10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, can use the Gainesville, GA Trolley app to track either trolley to best plan their ride(s),” Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss said.

Moss said the service was expanded to Thursdays due to increased demand. Routes for the neighborhood trolleys can be found here.

“Since we launched June 6, the neighborhood trolleys have welcomed aboard over 1,000 riders," Moss said.

The trolleys are expected to make a complete lap every 30 to 45 minutes and will run from June to August, and again in December. The trolleys are free and can accommodate up to 24 passengers.

While the neighborhood trolleys remain in place, Hall Area Transit has discontinued the Downtown Summer Lunchtime Trolley due to low demand. Moss said the lunchtime route may return in the future.
