Monkeypox cases in Georgia cross 100

The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now reporting 110 cases of monkeypox in Georgia.

Last Friday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported 93 cases of the disease, all in men from Metro Atlanta. According to the CDC, case numbers across the nation have grown to 1,972.

The news of the continued case growth comes as the Food and Drug Administration has given the green light for 1 million doses of the monkeypox vaccine to be shipped from Europe.

In a Friday afternoon press release, the Georgia Department of Public Health said they are working on setting up an online scheduling tool for monkeypox vaccinations.

So far, the state has received 3,000 doses of the two-shot JYNNEOS vaccine-- Which is enough to vaccinate 1,500 people. The state has distributed the doses for vaccination events in two metro counties.
