Hiker killed after falling from Bearden Falls in Dawson County

A hiker died on Sunday after accidentally falling from Bearden Falls in a remote area of Dawson County. In a statement from Dawson County Fire Chief Danny Thompson, multiple agencies responded to a request to rescue a hiker who had fallen. That call came in around 12:43 p.m. Rescue personnel reached the hiker around 2:22 p.m. and discovered the man had died from his injuries. The rescue then turned into a recovery and the man’s body was taken from the scene. 

According to the website “Georgia Waterfalls,” Bearden Falls is 80 feet in height and is located off Nimblewill Gap Road in the Chattahoochee National Forest. 

The hiker has not been identified.

Chief Thompson said that multiple agencies were involved in this search and recovery, including Forsyth Fire, Lumpkin County Fire, DNR, Dawson Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 6.
