Gwinnett County authorities rescued four people from the Yellow River Saturday evening after a sudden surge.

According to a press release from Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services, firefighters responded at about 8:24 p.m. to a report of a person trapped on a rock near the Yellow River Park.

Firefighters found four people trapped on a rock in the middle of the river. Crews were able to reach the people using a rescue throw bag. Crews then sent Personal Flotation Devices to the victims.

"Safety measures were also placed upstream and downstream of the victims," the release said. "The first arriving members of Gwinnett Swiftwater Rescue Team assisted with rescue efforts while awaiting the arrival of Boat 1."

Emergency crews used a rope to help guide the people to shore once they had donned their floats.

No injuries were reported. The group said they were playing in the river when the water level suddenly rose, trapping them on the rock. Firefighters say recent rainfall caused the water surge.

"Firefighters would like to emphasize the importance of wearing Personal Flotation Devices whenever near lakes, rivers, and streams," the release reads.
