Gainesville O.D. investigation results in murder charge

By AccessWDUN staff

A Dahlonega man now faces a murder charge for his alleged role in an overdose death earlier this year.

The Gainesville Police Department says Joshua Chad Evans, 32, has been charged with Felony Murder in the February death of Malcolm Ogletree. Evans was also charged with Felony Possession of a Schedule II Drug with Intent to Distribute.

GPD says its investigation revealed that Ogletree's overdose resulted from the victim ingesting fentanyl, and that Evans was the person responsible for distributing the drug to Ogletree.

“We will continue to thoroughly investigate each and every overdose call, those that wish to poison our society will be held responsible," said Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish in a statement provided to local media. "We must utilize all available resources to combat the opioid and fentanyl epidemic and will do so to the best of our abilities.”
