Child flown for medical care, four other people hurt in late-night wreck on Ga. 365

The Georgia State Patrol reports a 4-year-old was airlifted for medical care and four others were transported by ambulance after a wreck on Ga. 365 near Rock Road in Habersham County late Sunday.

Stephens County initially received reports of a serious rear-end collision about 11:30 p.m., but when emergency personnel arrived, they determined it was in Habersham County.

A blue 2011 Honda CRV driven by 58-year-old Heather King of Toccoa was either stopped in the right lane of Ga. 365 or yielded to Ga. 365 from the west shoulder and was in the right lane of Ga. 365 while returning to the roadway, said Sgt. 1st Class D.O. Saddler of GSP Post 7 Toccoa.

According to Saddler, King stated she had issues with her steering and traveled to the shoulder.

A green 2013 Toyota Camry driven by 24-year-old Trista Wheeler of Lavonia was traveling south on Ga. 365 in the right line and struck the Honda in the rear.

King and her passenger, 83-year-old Averil King of Toccoa, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Saddler said.

Wheeler and passenger, 2-year-old Keymarion Howell, also were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second passenger of the Toyota, 4-year-old Jaquarius Abercrombie, was airlifted from the Habersham County Airport in Baldwin for treatment.

Charges are pending, Saddler said.
