VocoVision donates teletherapy touchscreens to five Georgia school districts

VocoVision, a teletherapy company based out of Atlanta, has donated teletherapy touchscreen workstations to five school districts in Georgia, including in northeast Georgia’s Habersham County.

Nicole Webb, division director for VocoVision, said the 10 touchscreen workstations were worth about $10,000.

“We ended up delivering stations to Habersham County, Wayne County, Jones County, Polk County and Atlanta Public Schools,” Webb said.

Webb said the units had been brought back in-house at VocoVision, but they were not being used. That’s when they decided to give the units to school districts who they had previously partnered with.

“We started reaching out to the districts that we already have relationships and just said, ‘hey, is this something your school district might be able to use?’”

Webb said once they lined up the units with the five school systems, they physically traveled to each and delivered them in person.

The units are meant to give students in need of speech therapy and occupational therapy services an interactive way to learn, according to Webb. Specifically, she said the units can provide teletherapy services for students located in parts of Georgia that are facing a shortage of therapists or special education teachers.

“Even though they are … hundreds of miles apart, states apart, they can still have a lot of things they can access immediately, since [a therapist is] not right there playing a game with them,” Webb said.

Webb said it felt good to give back to school districts in VocoVision’s home state.

“We’re in a very special and unique position where we can make an impact on the schools make an impact on these kids,” Webb said.
