Two Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies are recovering after being hospitalized Wednesday following a car chase that ended in the arrest of a father and son.
According to a video message posted by the sheriff's office, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said the chase started with authorities serving a search warrant for stolen motorcycles. He described both the father, Beav Beavers, and the son, Colten Beavers, as career criminals.
"(Beav Beavers had) three prior misdemeanors, five prior felonies and four prior probation violations," Freeman said in the video. "(Colten Beavers) outdoes dad, he had 12 prior misdemeanors, six prior felonies, three prior probation violations and a parole violation and he's supposed to be on house arrest."
In the video, officers can be seen turning left off Browns Bridge Road onto Shady Grove Road during the pursuit. Freeman said they ended up on a dead-end road where nearby residents helped provide the suspect's location.
"We have citizens standing at the end of their driveway going 'deputies, he went this way, deputy he went that way,'" Freeman said.
The video shows the officers then being struck by a white pickup truck that was turning left off of another road. That truck was driven by Colten Beavers.
Beavers then fled on foot before being arrested. He faces a long list of charges including multiple counts each of theft by taking and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
Freeman said he is being held in the Forsyth County Jail without bond.
"Forsyth County is not very tolerant of crime and I assure you neither am I," Freeman said. "I'm going to do my best to make sure Colten Beavers, who tried to injure my deputies, is going to stay in jail for a long time."
Beav Beavers was also arrested and charged with theft by taking and theft by receiving stolen property. He is also being held without bond according to the sheriff's office.
Freeman said the two officers have been released from the hospital.
"I spent late (Wednesday) night at Northside Hospital with the two deputies. Thankfully, they're both ok. They're at home with their families but they're banged up pretty good."
