Construction on the City of Flowery Branch's new farmers market shed was well underway as of early April.
Renee Carden, downtown events coordinator and public information officer with Flowery Branch, said the hard completion date for the covered structure is Aug. 7, 2022. However, she said she hoped the project would finish slightly earlier.
"We finally have the structure ... in place, and they're starting to put down the beautiful flooring," Carden said. "Then they will turn and start on the alleyway."
The goal of the project is to create a permanent facility that the Flowery Branch Farmers Market can call home. Carden said the covered shed will have fans, electrical outlets, and space for about 32 vendors. Carden said additional vendors will be able to set up in the areas surrounding the shed.
The city is also developing an alleyway behind the Flowery Branch Depot that leads from Main Street to the new shed. The alleyway will be referred to as Market Alley once complete.
Carden said the project is vital to the Flowery Branch community.
"I think it's important for the community to have a place to come and buy products that are healthy for their families, and also, it's a sweet place to make memories," Carden said. "I just see memories being made and friendships, and it's like family when you come to the market."
