Lake Lanier park may be forced to close after continued vandalism

Thousands of dollars of damage has been done by vandals at Van Pugh Park North on Lake Lanier. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says that a bathroom was destroyed with holes in the walls, sinks smashed, toilets pulled off the wall. There was damage to the beach and picnic areas, as well. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates it will cost thousands of dollars to clean up, repair and replace the damage done.

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this is not the first time this has happened. “This happens frequently and if it continues, the restrooms will be closed, which will result in the closure of the park itself.”

Authorities are looking for those individuals who are responsible. Anyone with information should contact the Lanier Project Management Office at 770-945-9531.
