Victims falsely claim kidnapping attempt led to Habersham Co. collision

By Bryan Pirkle Reporter

Habersham County authorities are searching for an Alto man who they say intentionally ran another vehicle off the roadway early Monday morning, in an incident that the victims initially claimed began as a kidnapping attempt.

Alton Lee Davidson, 49, faces three counts of Aggravated Assault in the case, as well as one count of Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree.

Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terell said in a social media post that after receiving a call regarding a vehicle accident just before 2 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of Crane Mill Road and Gainesville Highway.

"As deputies were investigating the accident, they determined that the contact between the two vehicles was intentional and that the other driver, Alton Lee Davidson, had fled the scene," Terrell said.

One of the victims, identified as Amanda Allen, told deputies that Davidson had kidnapped her at gunpoint, but that she was able to escape.

She said she was then picked up by two other individuals, Carolyn Masters and Kenneth West, shortly before their vehicle was forced off the road.

"Masters and West told deputies that they were driving in the area of Gainesville Highway near the Hall County line when they allegedly saw Allen being held against her will by Davidson. They claim that they followed Davidson's vehicle until Allen could escape and pick her up," Terrell said. "A short time later, Masters, West, and Allen say that Davidson purposely crashed into the red Volkswagen Jetta they were traveling in."

However, an Investigator with the Habersham County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene to speak to the victims, and determined that their claims regarding the attempted kidnapping were actually false.

Terrell said those false reports are still being investigated by the Sheriff's Office.

Davidson remains on the loose at last report. Anyone with information regarding the incident or Davidson's location, is asked to call the Habersham County Sheriff's Office at 706-839-0500.
