Matt Hirschman was the man to beat at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway on Saturday, as he took the SMART Modified Tour victory at the 3/8-mile raceway.
It marks the third tour win of the season for the Northampton, Pennsylvania native.
Hirschman started the event on the pole, but lost the lead on the opening lap to Kyle Ebersole, who would pace the event until the first caution on lap 18.
On the restart, Ebersole again had the lead but was bypassed by Caleb Heady on lap 25, and held the spot until the second caution of the race flew on lap 27. That was followed by a competition caution on lap 30.
On the restart, Heady held the top spot until lap 35 when Hirschman took control, and led the pack until the next caution flew on lap 37. Back under green, Hirschman continued to lead with J.B. Fortin in pursuit.
A trio of cautions slowed the action on lap 49, with the race finally reaching the halfway point on lap 50.
Hirschman was challenged several times over the second half of the race, but in the end, he came home with the victory.
Jonathon Brown followed in second, with Heady in third, former NASCAR Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte in fourth, and Tom Buzze in fifth.
Burt Myers, Danny Bonn, Brandon Ward, Brian Loftin, and Fortin rounded out the top 10.
The SMART Modified Tour returns to action on Sunday, April 10 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia. For more information, visit SouthernModified.com.
