Jackson EMC Foundation awards funds to Hall County programs

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Jackson EMC Foundation has awarded over $27,000 to three organizations serving Hall County residents.

The funds are collected through EMC members who choose to have their bills rounded to the next dollar through the cooperative's "Operation Round Up" program.

The largest award was $15,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief for Hall County and surrounding counties including Banks, Jackson, Barrow and Lumpkin counties. Another $10,000 was awarded to Peachtree Christian Health, Inc. to provide a part-time assistant to the adult memory center's memory care program. Flowery Branch-based Spirit of Joy Food Pantry also received $2,500 to help add to their food supplies.

The "Operation Round Up" program has been in place since 2005 and has awarded over $17 million since its inception. Any local organization looking to apply for a grant can do so on Jackson EMC's website.
