OAKWOOD — In a possible state title match showdown, Class 5A No. 2 Woodward Academy knocked off No. 1-ranked Johnson 4-3 in overtime on Monday at The Dungeon.
The Knights (15-1-1), who came into the match ranked No. 2 in the national United Soccer Coaches poll, had their 15-match win streak snapped with the loss. Woodward improved to 12-1-1 on the season.
Jorge Sandoval found the net twice for Johnson while Jalil Chavez had the other goal. Angel Sagrero, Sandoval and Ramon Aguilar all had assists as well.
Johnson will have another major showdown on Friday at home against No. 3 Clarke Central in a one-match showdown for the Region 8-5A title and the all-important No. 1 seed in the upcoming Georgia High School Association playoffs.
