Golf: GHS boys, NHall girls ready to defend Hall Co. titles

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

OAKWOOD — The annual Hall County Championship golf tournament gets underway on Monday at Chicopee Wood Golf Course.

The Gainesville boys and North Hall girls come into the 2022 event as the defending champions.

The Red Elephants recently finished second in an ultra-competitive Big Red Shootout at Chattahoochee Golf Coure but the Cherokee Bluff boys finished tied for seventh in the 16-team field and was the only non-Class 7A or 6A team to crack the top 10 and could be ready to challenge for its first Hall County title.

The North Hall boys finished 12th in the Big Red Shootout. Lakeview Academy, which finished second in the 2021 Hall County tournament, finished 14th in the Big Red Shootout as the only Class A team in the field.

The girls tournament should be a wide-open affair. The Lady Trojans, who are the two-time defending champions, will be without the graduated Mikayla Dubnik for the first time in three years. However, most of the top 10 finishers from the 2021 tournament graduated leaving the door open for a new crop of players to try and etch their names in the record books on the girls side of the tournament.

The two-day event will have each team play 9-holes on Monday and 9 on Tuesday.

The event is scheduled to tee-off at 3:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
