A junior at Lakeview Academy has advanced to the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championships which will be held April 20-23, 2022, in Houston, TX.

Henry Stewart was named a Dean's List Finalist in the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Georgia Championship, which was recently held at the Gainesville Civic Center. He was one of three finalists from Georgia and one of 165 from North America.

"I was at my grandparents, and someone posted on their Instagram story with me as one of the finalists," Stewart said. "I didn't think I would win it. I was pretty excited."

Stewart is in his second year as a team member on Lakeview's FTC Robotics Team 5898. The team was one of 31 that advanced to the Georgia State Championship. Stewart was then interviewed by the FTC judges, and the three finalists were named at the end of the FTC Georgia Championship.

Mikhail Lovell, varsity robotics coach and technology director, said each team can nominate one or two students for the Dean's List nomination.

“We nominated him for this prestigious award because he is dedicated to his team, he welcomes everyone’s ideas and makes sure they are heard, and he is always kind, cooperative and willing to share a helping hand,” said Lovell. “Henry leads most often by example by being the person in the room to always be doing what they should be doing.”

Stewart said he was one of Lakeview's drivers, meaning he controls the robot during competitions. He said he has also helped build robots as part of the team.
