MACON — Flowery Branch junior Bella Brick and freshman Landon Mealor made Georgia High School Association history on Thursday.

The pair of Falcons outshot teams from Rabun County and Whitewater to win the first-ever Coed 3-point shooting contest at the Macon Centreplex.

They beat Whitewater 18-9 in the final round after Rabun County was eliminated during the first shoot-off.

The format had each player shoot six balls from two racks, five counting one point and the final one counting for three.

Brick and Mealor set the pace in the opening round with 17 points. Whitewater finished with 15 and Rabun County, with sophomore Ellie Southards and junior Cooper Welch, tallied just 8 points to be eliminated to set up the final round.

Brick and Mealor again set the mark with 18 points in the final round. Whitewater’s Leah Smith and Darrian Drake could not match it.

“It was fun to hear the squish of the court,” Brick said. “We felt pretty good coming in that we could win this.”

“I’ve never done something like that with all these people,” Mealor said. “It was pretty cool.”
