Baseball: Weather causing scheduling issues as region play heats up

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

GAINESVILLE — The multitudes of storms expected to roll through the area this week already is having a major affect on the high school baseball schedule.

Nearly a dozen games got wiped out on Monday -- Gainesville lost 7-6 to No. 1 Lambert as the only game that posted a score -- and already the Cedar Shoals at Flowery Branch and Madison County at Jefferson games set for Tuesday have been postponed. The Gilmer-North Hall series to open Region 7-3A already has had the first game canceled on both Monday and Tuesday.

Georgia High School Association rules stipulate that teams must play the first open day both teams have to reschedule region games. With most regions playing three-game series every week, finding open days so as not to play five consecutive days will become a challenge if an entire week's worth of games has to be rescheduled.

We will update our full baseball schedule on AccessWDUN on the high school page whenever we receive word of a rescheduled game. Check back often as this promises to be a fluid situation the next couple of weeks.
