GAINESVILLE — Chuck Graham is back.
Two weeks after being fired as the Gainesville boys head coach, Graham is back at the helm of the Red Elephants.
Gainesville superintendent Jeremy Williams confirmed the reinstatement of Graham on Monday.
"I informed the Board this evening that coach Graham accepted the reinstatement," Williams said on Monday. "After a couple of conversations with coach over the last 10 days, we are looking forward to the next phase for our boys program."
On Feb. 18, Gainesville athletic director Adam Lindsey said the school was parting ways with both Graham and girls coach Alan Griffin.
The announcement created a firestorm in the community over the move. Social media erupted in calls for Graham to be reinstated along with a boisterous board meeting the following week.
After hearing from the players, parents and the community, Williams said "it was the right thing to do" in offering Graham his job back two weeks ago.
"There was never a doubt about Chuck's impact on people of all ages," Williams said. "We are hopeful we can move the program forward by ensuring he has the structure and resources available to take our program to the next level."
