Every region in Northeast Georgia has kicked off its regular season schedule and there are some hugely important matches on both the girls and boys sides this week.
However, the biggest matchup of the week will not take place in region play. State and national powerhouse Dalton, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, will visit Class 5A No. 1 Johnson on Friday at The Dungeon. Both teams come in undefeated and looking to make a statement. The two teams kick off at 6:30 p.m.
The undefeated Jefferson and East Hall boys meet in Jefferson on Tuesday with the winner remaining in first place. But the Flowery Branch boys are also unbeaten in region play and head to winless Madison County.
The Jefferson girls also are looking to remain perfect in region play as well.
The big matchup in Region 7-3A has the No. 7 West Hall boys playing host to No. 10 Gilmer. The winner could take over sole possession of first place but East Forsyth, who has two tough road matches at Dawson County and White County this week, also is unbeaten in region play.
