Boys soccer: No. 1 Johnson takes region road win over Greenbrier

EVANS — Class 5A No. 1 Johnson stayed unbeaten on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Greenbrier in Region 8-5A action on the road.

The Knights (10-, 2-0 Region 8-5A) trailed 1-0 early on a penalty kick goal by the Wolfpack (2-3, 2-2 Region 8-5A). Moments later, however, Kevin Castile scored the equalizer for Johnson from an assist by Ramon Aguilar.

Jorge Sandoval gave the Knights the lead for good with a goal off an assist from Andres Galicia for a 2-1 lead just before the half. Johnson widened its lead to 3-1 with a PK goal by freshman Daniel Trujillo early in the second half. Aguilar made it 4-1 on a through ball from Sandoval.

Greenbrier cut the lead to 4-2 with leas than 10 minutes left but Jalil Chavez sealed the win with a goal off another assist Sandoval.

The Knights will host Walnut Grove on Tuesday in another region battle before playing host to national power and Class 6A No. 1-ranked Dalton (8-0-2) on Friday.
