After community backlash, the Gainesville City Board of Education is reviewing the decision to fire boys basketball coach Chuck Graham.
Graham was "relieved" of his duties as boys basketball coach at Gainesville High School last Friday.
In the press release, Gainesville athletic director Adam Lindsey said, “We have a standard of excellence at Gainesville and our goal has been, and will always be, to build on that legacy."
The move didn't sit well with the players, parents and community and set social media ablaze.
Gainesville superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams said he and the board listened to what the community had to say in a meeting on Tuesday. He also said he held a parent meeting on Monday.
"After listening to the parents, players and community, we're in the process of reviewing the decision," Williams said.
Williams also said they hope to have a decision finalized soon.
"The board and I listened last night to the community and Mr. [Jamie} Green and I held a player/parent meeting Monday evening," Williams said. "Coaching responsibilities are not a board action, so any change to the decision will come from my office, which we hope to finalize soon."
