House fire claims the life of a 10-year-old girl

A child was killed in a house fire in Jackson County on Saturday. Around 11:30 p.m., deputies responded to a fire on Skelton Road in Hoschton. According to a statement from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the 9-1-1 caller had said there was a child trapped inside a bedroom. When deputies arrived, the 10-year-old girl was still trapped. They tried to go in to rescue her, but flames and smoke were too heavy. Fire personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and were able to get to the girl, but she was pronounced dead just shortly after arriving to the hospital.

The person who had called 9-1- was taken to Grady Hospital to be treated for injuries.

Names are being withheld at this time. There is also no word on a possible cause of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing by the Georgia State Fire Marshall’s Office, Jackson County Coroner, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
