SUGAR HILL — Buford’s bid to repeat as Region 8-6A champs was snuffed out on Saturday, along with its 14-game win streak, as Dacula knocked off the Class 6A No. 1-ranked Lady Wolves 55-52 in the Region 8-6A finals at Lanier High School.
The Lady Falcons (18-9) outscored the Lady Wolves (22-4) 9-6 in the overtime period. They also rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit.
Buford looked like it was going to make quick work of the Lady Falcons jumping out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Wolves took a 33-15 lead into halftime.
But Buford struggled the rest of the way managing just 19 total points in the second half and overtime. Dacula pulled within 38-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
Dacula’s Lazaria Spearman was a big reason why. Spearman poured in 13 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Lady Falcons used a 19-8 fourth quarter run to send the game to overtime.
Taylor Romano paced Buford with 16 points. Jayla Gudz added 13, but scored just 3 points after halftime. Tatum Ozment had 11 for the Lady Wolves.
