No injuries reported after Banks County brush fire

By Austin Eller News Director

No one was injured after a brush fire consumed a building in Homer that housed show cows and pigs on Thursday.

A press release from Banks County Fire and Emergency Services said units responded to the fire at 672 Union Hill Road at 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 10.

The building was previously used as a chicken house but had been converted to house show animals. The release said the cows and pigs inside the structure were quickly removed. None of the animals were injured.

The fire was quickly contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department. The fire appears to be accidental, but a nearby burn barrel and dumping of ash may have played a part in the fire, according to the release.

Habersham County, Franklin County, Georgia Forestry and Homer fire departments all assisted in the incident.
