The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has released new information in a fatal accident between a motorcycle and a Dodge Ram Saturday in Dawsonville. The victim of the motorcycle accident has been identified as Ashley Kelly, 37 of Dawsonville.
The driver of the motorcycle was also injured. Phillip Carl Balswer, 32 of Dawsonville, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The GSP says that Balswer was released from the hospital four days later.
It appears the accident happened on Feb. 12 at 6:06 p.m. when the motorcycle, a Suzuki, was traveling southbound beside a Dodge Ram. In a statement from Cpl. Code White with the GSP, “While both vehicles were traveling south, some aggressive driving behaviors were exhibited, and the driver of the motorcycle lost control causing the motorcycle to strike the side of the other vehicle.” Both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected off the motorcycle.
White says that alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
Original Story, Feb. 14: A motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Dawsonville woman this weekend. The accident happened on Saturday evening on GA-400 in the northern part of Dawson County.
The Georgia State Patrol says that the investigation is still ongoing so not many details are being released at this time. They did say that the accident involved a Dodge Ram Pickup and a motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 32-year-old man from Dawsonville, and the passenger, a 37-year-old female also from Dawsonville, were both seriously injured. The woman died as a result of her injuries and the man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.
Two people in the Dodge Ram, both from Cleveland, were not injured.
The names of those involved have not been released. There has also been no word on whether or not any charges have been filed in the accident.
