Five Lawrenceville families displaced after an apartment fire

Five families were left without housing when a fire damaged a Lawrenceville apartment complex on Tuesday morning. It took fire crews several hours to put out the fire at the Water Vista Apartments in Lawrenceville. They stayed at the apartments throughout the morning to put out hot spots.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, around 9 a.m. contractors working at the complex turned on the unit’s furnace and immediately noticed smoke coming from the vents. The contractors were able to quickly alert residents and get everyone out safely. They also called the fire department.

The blaze was mostly contained to the attic according to the report. Six of the building’s 18 units were affected. Officials are still working to obtain a headcount on how many people were affected.

The Red Cross was at the scene working to help families find temporary housing.
