A woman, 19, from Jefferson died Saturday evening in an accident in the emergency lane on I-985 southbound in Hall County.
The Georgia State Patrol said the accident happed at about 10:20 p.m. near mile marker 20.
A Honda Element reportedly struck the guardrail and became disabled partially in the right lane without lights. A Chevrolet Cobalt driven by the Jefferson woman pulled over into the emergency lane with her flashers on. The Georgia State Patrol said the woman had stepped out of her Cobalt.
A third car, a Chevrolet Avalanche, was trying to negotiate a curve when it struck the rear of the disabled Honda Element in the roadway. The Avalance was then forced off of the roadway and struck the Jefferson woman and the guardrail. The Avalance also struck the rear of the Chevrolet Cobalt that belonged to the victim.
The driver of the Honda Element left the scene.
The victim's name has not been released. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
