Girls basketball: Chestatee stays in 2nd in 8-4A; Bluff, Lakeview, North Forsyth, NHall, Buford win; GHS, JHS, LCA fall

DANIELSVILLE — Chestatee won its second consecutive game and stayed in second place in Region 8-4A after taking a dominating 52-25 road win over Madison County on Friday.

The Lady War Eagles (17-7, 7-4 Region 8-4A) came into Friday's action in a three-way tie for second with North Oconee (14-10, 7-4 Region 8-4A), who beat East Hall, 37-36, on Friday and Cedar Shoals (13-10, 6-4 Region 8-4A) but temporarily moved one-half game ahead of each in the standings. Both of those teams also were in action on Friday.

Riley Black led a balanced Chestatee scoring attack with 13 points. Addison Boyd had 12 points, and Riley Allison chipped in 10 points for Chestatee. 

Bowen Corley had 7 points and 11 rebounds and Brenna Williams added 6 points for the Lady War Eagles. 

Chestatee will wrap up its regular season at home on Tuesday against Cedar Shoals in what could be a showdown for an automatic playoff berth. Madison County (8-16, 2--9 Region 8-4A) will play host to East Hall on Tuesday in both teams' regular-season finales as well.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 57,
GILMER 41

The Lady Bears (10-15, 5-9 Region 7-3A) snapped a three-game losing streak and finished as the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Region 7-3A Tournament with a big win at home on Friday.

Timber Gaither had a monster game with 29 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals to pace Bluff. Taliah Gaither added 16 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Bears.

Gilmer (9-17, 3-11 Region 7-3A) finished as the seventh seed.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in the first round of the region tournament with the winner advancing to the second round.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 66,
MT PISGAH 20

The Lady Lions used an 18-6 second quarter to blow open the game en route to a Region 6-A Private victory at home.

Lakeview (9-11, 3-3 Region 6-A Private) led 11-3 after the opening quarter and took a 29-9 halftime lead after the big run. The Lady Lions extended their lead to 45-15 heading into the fourth quarter.

Joelle Snyder led Lakeview with 24 points and 5 assists. Dynesty Putman had 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, Sidney Corbin added  11 points and Ashlyn Henderson had 7 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for the Lady Lions.


PEACHTREE ACADEMY 43,
LANIER CHRISTIAN 34

The Lady Lightning fell short in their regular-season finale at home. 

Ashley Avery led all scorers with 17 points for LCA (10-14, 4-6 GAPPS 2-3A). Camille Hoffman added 13 points for the Lady Lightning. Avery also had 15 boards and  Hoffman had 11 boards for LCA.

LCA next will play at home in the first round of the region tournament on Tuesday.


NORTH FORSYTH 72,
GAINESVILLE 42

It was close for a quarter, then the second quarter happened. 

The second-ranked Lady Raiders (20-3, 11-0 Region 6-7A), behind Haelim Adle and Erin Whalen, exploded for 25 second-quarter points en route to a 42-23 lead at the half and the win against the Lady Red Elephants (8-14, 1-10 Region 6-7A). Adle and Whalen combined for 13 points and were two of the four Lady Raiders in double figures on the night. 

Anna Gliatta led North Forysth with 14 points, while Ali Jones, who hit nine points from behind the 3-point arc, finished with 13 points. Adel and Whalen had 11 points each. 

Gainesville's offensive woes continued in the third quarter, after Keidra Young, who had a game-high 22 points, was on the bench for the entire third quarter after picking up her fourth foul in the second quarter. 

North Forsyth outpaced Gainesville 30-19 in the second half. 


NORTH HALL 62,
EAST FORSYTH 52

North Hall locked up the No. 4 seed in next week's Region 7-3A tournament with the win over the Lady Broncos on Friday at Lynn Cottrell Court. 

East Forsyth will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament. North Hall's Rylee McCall scored her 1,000th-career point in the win over East Forsyth. 


BUFORD 50,
CENTRAL GWINNETT 38

Taylor Romano scored 14 points, and Tatum Ozment had 13 to lead the Lady Wolves (19-3, 10-0 Region 8-6A) past Central Gwinnett on the road Friday 

Buford will play host to Winder-Barrow on Tuesday. 


EASTSIDE 55,
JOHNSON 42

The Lady Knights were held to just four free throws in the first quarter, trailed 13-4 early, and never recovered in a Region 8-5A loss on the road.

Over the final three quarters, Johnson (4-18, 1-11 Region 8-5A) played the Lady Eagles Johnson (4-13, 3-8 Region 8-5A) even being outscored just 42-38. The Lady Knights trailed 28-14 at the half and 43-23 heading into the final quarter.

Sarah Johnson, however, poured in 9 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to help Johnson outscore Eastside 19-12 over the final eight minutes. Alana Young, Catherine Antonio, and Emely Trejo all had 5 points for the Lady Knights.

Lizzie Teasley led Eastside with 17 points and Jailyn Williams had 13 for the Lady Eagles.
