The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office continues to search for the wanted man who stole gold nuggets, precious gemstones, cell phones, and jewelry from a local gold mine.
On Feb. 3, employees at the Crisson Gold Mine on Morrison Moore Pkwy. were held at gunpoint while the man stole almost $100,000 worth of items.
In a social media post, Sheriff Stacy Jarrard says that there is now a reward of $10,000 in place for anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. That is an increase from an original $1,000 reward.
Original Story, Feb. 4: A Gold Mine in Dahlonega was robbed on Thursday. Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office said that someone took "large amounts of gold" from Crisson Gold Mine in Dahlonega around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. They are asking anyone in the vicinity of the mine and Cavender Creek Rd. to be on the lookout for a white male who may be armed and considered dangerous.
He is described as approximately 5’10” tall, and was wearing a puffy black jacket with an orange emblem on it. He was also carrying a black duffel bag and may be wearing a mask and sunglasses.
The suspect also stole employees’ cell phones, money and jewelry. The Sheriff's Office did not give specifics on how much gold or money was taken.
