FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — In the most exciting opening round of Lanierland in recent years, the semifinals are set and are sure to be crazy.
In the most exciting game of the day, the Cherokee Bluff boys pulled off a double-overtime win against Chestatee, 72-68, to advance to the semifinals. They'll take on Gainesville at 4:30 p.m. today at Flowery Branch.
In other boys action, West Hall rallied past defending champion East Hall, 52-46 in the late game on Wednesday. Gainesville and Flowery Branch battled to the last second, with the Big Red pulling off a thrilling first-round win, 62-60, and Lakeview kept it close until the Trojans used the hot hand of Sam Gailey to blowout the Lions, 75-49.
The Trojans will get West Hall in the nightcap, set to begin at 7:30 p.m. today.
On the girls side, North Hall cruised past West Hall, 74-8, to advance to the semifinals. Chestatee started slow but was able to outlast Lakeview 52-42.
Gainesville rolled to a 65-39 win over East Hall, and Cherokee Bluff held on against Flowery Branch 56-48.
The Lady Red Elephants will open the semifinal round against Chestatee at 3 p.m. today, and North Hall and Bluff will battle for a trip to the finals at 6 p.m.
