The boil water advisory issued Sunday by the Forsyth County Government is still in effect as Department of Water & Service crews work to restore water pressure to normal levels.
Officials with the water department identified the issue on Sunday that caused various water outages and low water pressure issues in north Forsyth County.
“A valve that delivers water to the system located at the north high service pump station froze during the multiple days of continued below freezing temperatures,” a press release from the agency reads.
Crews fixed the frozen valve on Sunday and restored water pressure to impacted areas. There was no break in the Forsyth County system and governmental officials said the chances of contamination are low.
However, officials issued the boil water advisory for citizens north of Ga. 369, which spans from the Hall County border to the Cherokee County border. Water customers who lost water pressure completely or had extremely low pressure should completely boil their water before drinking, cooking or preparing baby food.
The water should be boiled for at least one full minute after reaching a full boil.
The boil water advisory will remain in effect until the county can conduct sampling in accordance with regulatory guidelines. The advisory could last for 48 hours.
The county will issue a notification on its news page and its social media channels once the boil water advisory is listed.
