Jackson County wreck claims life of Watkinsville man

A Watkinsville man died Wednesday in a three-vehicle wreck in Commerce.

Luis Montanez Villafane, 71, died when the green 2011 Honda CRV he was driving collided head-on with a Ford U-Haul box truck, the Georgia State Patrol reported.

The GSP investigation revealed the CRV was traveling southbound on Homer Road in Jackson County behind a black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by April Stephenson Love, 37, of Commerce.

The Tahoe slowed to a stop to make a left turn and GSP said the CRV crossed the double yellow line to pass the Tahoe then swerved, striking the driver side rear of it before the striking the box truck.

The CRV then overturned, sliding on its roof.

Villafane was pronounced dead at the scene.

The box truck was driven by Aeysha Elexus Echols, 26, of Winder.
