A woman was arrested in Gainesville Tuesday in connection with the death of her adopted son in Arizona more than six years ago.
In a release, the city of Buckeye, Arizona said 54-year-old Crystal Wilson was arrested on a warrant on charges of abandonment or concealment of a body. The case stems from the death of 10-year-old Jesse Wilson.
The Gainesville Police Department reportedly worked in conjunction with Buckeye investigators and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force to make the arrest.
City officials say Crystal Wilson reported her adopted son missing in July of 2016 and his remains were found on the side of a highway in Buckeye two years later. Forensics were unable to determine a cause of death and the case was reassigned to new investigators in 2020. The investigation ultimately led to charges being filed against Crystal Wilson on December 9 of this year.
The Gainesville Police Department shared a post from the Buckeye Police Department announcing the arrest Wednesday, using the hashtag "teamwork." In a statement, Buckeye police thanked Gainesville for its help in the case.
"The Buckeye Police Department thanks all of our law enforcement partners and countless members of the public who invested their time in multiple searches or provided information to assist this investigation," the department said in Wednesday's release.
Officials have not said how long Wilson had been in Gainesville at the time of her arrest.
