The Georgia Department of Transportation started work Wednesday on a new Elachee Drive overpass bridge over Interstate 985 in Hall County.
According to a press release from GDOT, the current bridge will be replaced. The work will be performed by E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. The new bridge will include a series of changes, including pedestrian upgrades and new beautification features.
Work on the bridge will include single lane closures and traffic pacing during select hours. A full list of traffic impacts is as follows:
- Single lane closures on I-985 northbound may occur Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., or from 9 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Sunday.
- Single lane closures on I-985 southbound may occur Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., or from 9 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Sunday.
- Traffic pacing is allowed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Sunday for northbound and southbound traffic.
- Single lane closures on Elachee Drive and all side streets may occur Sunday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Special events are an exception for these lane closures.
The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2023.
The project listing on the GDOT website states the current bridge was built in 1967.
