Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators are continuing their investigation at Cherokee Bluff High School after a school resource officer found and confiscated two handguns.

According to the agency, the weapons were found during a basketball game. A school resource officer received a tip about the weapons and notified the school resource officer. The school resource officer searched the common locker room area and found the weapons inside a book bag.

Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators have identified one juvenile suspect, but sheriff's office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said the suspect is not booked into the jail.

Hall County Schools Director of Communications Stan Lewis says school administrators are going through their discipline process and are cooperating with law enforcement. The suspect is not allowed on any Hall County School properties.

Additionally, investigators have ruled so far that there is no evidence that the juvenile brought the weapons to harm any group or individual.

Authorities confiscated two handguns from a student Friday during a basketball game at Cherokee Bluff High School in Hall County.

According to a press release from the Hall County School District, school officials and the school resource officer confiscated the weapons from a student's book bag after receiving a tip about possible weapons on campus.

The release said the situation was immediately turned over to law enforcement.

"An investigation is currently underway, and those involved are not allowed on any Hall County School District campus," the release reads.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that no charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon. Authorities were unable to provide information about how the weapons ended up on campus or why they were brought to campus due to the ongoing investigation.

The Hall County School District said the incident was a violation of Georgia law and the HCSD student code of conduct, and the district will respond accordingly.

"The safety of students, their families, staff members, and all visitors on any of our campuses is our most important responsibility," the release from the school district reads. "The fact that this concern was immediately shared with school officials highlights the importance of the practice of, 'If you see something, say something.' We would like to thank the Hall County community for having the courage to speak up in such a serious situation."
