District 2 Public Health to offer free HIV testing Thursday

By Austin Eller News Director

Northeast Georgia's District 2 Public Health will provide free HIV testing Thursday in honor of World AIDS Day.

Several confidential testing options are available at District 2 health departments, including rapid HIV tests and at-home test kits. A free test can be obtained by visiting your county health department.

Mail-order HIV test kits are also available through the Georgia Department of Public Health self-testing resource page.

More than 32 million people have died worldwide from AIDS-related illness, according to a release from District 2.

"People with HIV who take HIV medicine as prescribed can achieve an undetectable viral load and live a long and healthy life," the release reads.

The theme for this year's world AIDS day is "I am a Work of Art." The national campaign is designed to encourage people with HIV who are not in care for HIV to seek care, stay in care and achieve viral suppression by taking antiretroviral therapy.
