A recent shooting investigation in Gwinnett County led to the arrests of multiple alleged gang members as a result of 73 felony arrest warrants.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the arrests were made with the assistance of the Special Investigation Section Gang Unit and the K9 Unit in Lawrenceville. Officers responded to a shooting call on August 21 on Brookdale Drive in Buford. After arriving, officers found multiple homes that had been shot. Detectives later learned the shooting was a result of a gang-related dispute, which was connected to another shooting on Circle View Drive.

Kahmani Semaj Rhodes, 18, was the victim of the shooting on Brookdale Drive. Several days after the incident, Rhodes spotted one of the suspects he believed was responsible for the shooting. Rhodes and a second suspect, Willie Taylor, 19, shot from their vehicle into the other vehicle driving by.

Six arrests were made as a result of the shootings. Additional suspects were identified in connection with other crimes, including aggravated assault, the sale and possession of drugs, armed robbery and other gang related charges. New charges may be applied as the investigation continues.

The Gwinnett Police Department said their priority is the safety of the community.

“Gang violence in our community will not be tolerated, nor will any activity that threatens the quality of life of our residents,” the police department’s news release said. “Gun violence or any violence that harms the safety of our citizens and visitors are unacceptable.”
