The City of Suwanee is inviting all citizens to donate their old trophies and plaques to help it reach its vision for a new public art project: an Ultimate Participation Trophy.
The city is hosting an event to collect unwanted trophies on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m. in Town Center Park. Phil Procter, the artist behind the Ultimate Participation Trophy and Suwanee resident and Hoarders star Matt Paxton will be at the event. The city will also be interviewing those who donate trophies for an ‘artumentary’ that will accompany a project.
Suwanne is planning on using the donated trophies to create a giant trophy sculpture for the public to enjoy.
“I’ve asked my kids if they want their old trophies, and the answer was a hard no,” Suwanee Assistant City Manager and empty nester Denise Brinson said in a press release. “As a parent, it’s hard to just throw them away. This project gives those mementos a meaningful purpose and second life.”
Paxton says that trophies of all sizes are welcome.
