Hatchett wins Georgia State Senate District 50 seat

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

Republican incumbent Bo Hatchett was victorious in his bid for reelection as the District 50 Senator in the 2022 midterm election.

District 50 includes parts of Banks and Hall Counties and all of Towns, Rabun and Habersham Counties. The coverage area stretches up to the North and South Carolina borders while its southern border is drawn near Jefferson. Under 2020's redrawn district lines, the 50th district senate seat now includes a minor section of eastern Gainesville.

Currently, the District 50 senate seat represents approximately 186,077 citizens. Georgia senators serve two-year terms and are not subject to term limits.

Bo Hatchett ran against Democratic candidate Paulette Williams in this year’s midterm election and said he's excited to serve his constituents once more.

"I feel honored. It's very humbling, obviously, to get elected the first time," Hatchett said. "But to be reelected again, it's just a blessing. And I'm thankful for this district for putting their trust in me to represent them. And I look forward to continuing to represent them starting in January with the new session."

Hatchett says he's grateful to have such a strong team around him going into his next term.

"We've got a good team, and I, you know, hats off to them, I could not do this without them," Hatchett said. "And I couldn't do this without my family, my wife at home, my extended family, that helps out tremendously. I'm just very blessed to have a good team around me. You know, they believe in me, and I remember that every day when I'm down at the Capitol to always work and fight for them."

Looking forward, Hatchett wants to focus on conservative principles.

"Well, I think, you know, continuing the fight to keep Georgia the number one state in the nation to do business, you know, continuing to stand up for educators," Hatchett said. "And here in Georgia, we back the blue 100%. I think the principles that have guided this state over the past four years under Governor Kemp, and even before that, under Governor Deal."
