Former Gainesville Chief City Marshall passes away

The Gainesville Police Department announced that Debbie Jones, who served as the Chief City Marshall for 18 years, was laid to rest on Saturday.

In addition to serving as the Chief City Marshall, Jones also worked in the Finance Department for two years until her retirement in 2021.

“Debbie was a friend to all and never met a stranger. We will always be thankful for Debbie and her service to this community,” the police department said in a Facebook post. “We mourn a great team member as Debbie was a friend to many, including the members of this agency and the City. Special thanks to the GPD members and other agencies who assisted the past few days with funeral arrangements.”

The police department asked for thoughts and prayers for Jones’ family.
