The 2022 Georgia High School Association volleyball playoffs got underway on Tuesday around the state. And being at home was a key ingredient for several Northeast Georgia area teams.
Area champions Buford, Jefferson, and White County all won handily at home on Tuesday.
Defending Class 6A state champion Buford, who moved up to Class 7A this season, started its quest for back-to-back state titles with a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-7, 25-15) over Duluth at home in the Class 7A tournament.
The Area 8-7A top-seeded Lady Wolves next will play host to Cherokee in the second round on Saturday.
Area 8-5A champion Jefferson also got off to a quick start whipping Cass 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-13) at The Arena on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons will take on Kell in the second round at The Arena on Saturday.
However, 2021 Class 4A state runner-up Flowery Branch, ran into a tough Cartersville squad, dropping a 3-0 decision (25-8, 25-10, 25-16) in Class 5A on the road.
Area 7-3A champion White County spiked Monroe Area 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-13) in Cleveland in the first of the Class 3A tournament. The Lady Warriors will play host to Bremen in the second round on Saturday.
Also in Class 3A, Dawson County lost 3-0 to Hebron Christian (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) and Lumpkin County fell 3-0 to Oconee County (25-9, 25-13, 25-17) in the opening round.
In Class A Division 1, Rabun County lost 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-10, 25-9) to Dade County on the road.
Classes 6A, 4A, and 2A will get underway on Wednesday with first round action around the area and state.
