A Gainesville man was shot to death in the city Thursday evening, and police are now searching for the suspect.

According to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department, police responded to the 2200 block of Catalina Drive at about 9:30 p.m.

Police found Cristian Jimenez, 25, laying in the backyard of a residence with a gunshot wound. Jimenez was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he later died.

Police said Armando Alanis Escamilla, 55, was quickly identified as a suspect in the murder. Escamilla reportedly knew Jimenez. Warrants were obtained for Escamilla for felony murder. Police do not have a motive as of Friday morning.

Escamilla reportedly lived at the address where the incident occurred and fled the scene before authorities arrived. He was described as six feet tall, 170 lbs, with gray hair and brown eyes. A photo of Escamilla can be viewed above.

Anyone with information about Escamilla's whereabouts can contact Gainesville Police here.

“We hope that someone will be able to assist us in bringing Escamilla safely into custody," Chief Jay Parrish said.
