Softball: Region 8-4A tightens up after wild night on Thursday

DANIELSVILLE — North Hall stayed red-hot, winning its fifth straight Region 8-4A game with a 13-0 blowout of Madison County on the road Thursday.

The win pushed the Lady Trojans (14-10, 9-8 Region 8-4A) into a three-way tie for fourth-place with Madison County (14-13, 9-8 Region 8-4A) and Cherokee Bluff (14-10, 9-8 Region 8-4A). 

However, North Hall may hold the edge in the tiebreakers. The Lady Trojans swept the season series with Madison County and split a pair of games with Bluff. Bluff was swept by Madison County.

Against Madison County on Thursday, North Hall broke open a close game with 11 runs in the second inning. 

KB Seabolt had the big blow with a bases-clearing triple. Anna Reeves had a hit and 2 RBI and Kristina Peach had two hits and 1 RBI for North Hall.

Olivia Mullins got the win allowing just one hit and struck out 7.

The Lady Trojans, who close out the season against Chestatee on Tuesday, can clinch a playoff spot with a win and and losses by both Madison County and Cherokee Bluff. North Hall also can clinch if all three teams win or all three teams lose in their final games.

However, Cherokee Bluff would claim the spot if they finished tied with North Hall based on their season sweep of third-place North Oconee. Madison County can claim the spot with a win and losses by both North Hall and Bluff.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 13,
NORTH OCONEE 11

The Lady Bears remained tied for fourth place in Region 8-4A with a crucial win over the Lady Titans at home on Thursday. 

Cherokee Bluff (14-10, 9-8 Region 8-4A) built a huge lead and then had to survive a furious North Oconee rally. The Lady Titans belted four home runs in the final two innings but could not get the equalizer.

After North Oconee scored three runs in the top of the fifth, Cherokee Bluff answered with three huge runs of its own. The Lady Bears scored on run in the sixth for insurance.

The Lady Bears opened up its big lead with eight runs in the third. In the big inning, Lauren Rule, Angelina Baronci, Catalina Baronci, and Kaitlyn Herren all drove in runs. Audrey Graham capped it with a two-run home run.

Catalina Baronci took the win in the circle for Cherokee Bluff, allowing nine runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. She fanned three. Graham threw 1 1/3 innings in relief to get the save.

Cherokee Bluff travels to East Hall on Tuesday with a chance to clinch a playoff spot.


CHESTATEE 12,
CEDAR SHOALS 2 (4 inn)

The Lady War Eagles rallied from an early 2-0 first-inning deficit to knock off the Lady Jaguars at home on Thursday.

Chestatee answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and then put it out of reach with five runs in the third and four in the fourth

In the third inning, Ashlyn Gibbs homered while Kaylin Thome and Jaden Lee also drove in runs.

Hannah Pierce got the win for Chestatee. Pierce scattered six hits allowing just the two runs and struck out four.


WALNUT GROVE 14,
EAST HALL 2

The Lady Vikings had an early 2-1 lead but could not hold it as the Lady Warriors exploded to score the final 13 runs of the game.

Amari Burce took the loss for East Hall and left after the third inning with an injury.

Haley Armour finished out the game for the Lady Vikings in the circle.

Armour and Callie Dale both had one hit for East Hall.
